Radar, lightning and satellite
The map displays various parameters from the last three hours and is updated every five minutes.
Weather radar: Current precipitation, with colors indicating intensity. The data is sourced from the radar at Gantkofel and supplemented by Swiss radar data.
Hail Probability: Likelihood of hail occurrence in percentage. The data is sourced from the radar at Gantkofel. New feature, currently in testing.
Hail Size: The most probable size of hail in centimeters. The data is sourced from the radar at Gantkofel. New feature, currently in testing.
Lightning: Current lightning discharges, distinguished into ground lightning ✖️ (discharge between cloud and ground) and cloud lightning ⏺ (discharge within thunderclouds). The data is sourced from the Meteorage lightning detection system.
Satellite Image: Current images from the European weather satellite “Meteosat.” The data is provided by EUMETSAT and updated every 15 minutes.
How to use the weather maps
The interactive weather maps show the geo-referenced data for specific parameters: Precipitation, cloud cover, temperature, wind, lightning and hail in the summer months. There is a legend for each parameter so that you can read and interpret the data correctly.
The functions of the maps:
- Zoom;
- Location determination;
- Full-screen view;
- Icon South Tyrol to reset extend;
The speed (FPS) shows how fast the animation of the map is played. 2 FPS means that two images are displayed per second. This ensures a slower, clearer display so that changes can be easily tracked over time. You can choose between 1 and 6 FPS.
You can stop or play the animation using the play or pause button.
The lock symbol allows you to lock the map area so that the zoom, displayed area and the same time period remain unchanged. This function applies to both analysis data and forecasts and allows you to easily compare different layers or points in time without changing the display.
You can activate automatic updating during navigation: New images and current data are automatically loaded every 5 minutes so that you always have access to the latest data.
