How to use the website

Discover South Tyrol's new weather portal

On the homepage, you can see today's weather, your personally selected favourites for each municipality and all current webcams at a glance. The interactive South Tyrol map allows you to explore the forecasts for all 116 municipalities using the zoom function. If you wish, you can also do this in full-screen mode or based on your current location.

Mountain sports enthusiasts will find what they are looking for: the mountain weather offers forecasts for the seven mountain groups in South Tyrol and shows the most important trends for the coming days.

The geo-referenced weather maps are brand new. The parameters displayed on the maps, such as precipitation, cloud cover, temperature, etc., provide a precise overview of the current weather situation. You can also switch seamlessly between past and future data within the map, according to your needs and interests.

With the widget of the national weather service, you can easily integrate the weather forecast into your own homepage.

You can also download all weather reports as PDF files.

With a responsive design, accessible navigation, fast loading times and flexible filter options, the new weather portal is user-friendly and powerful on any device.

Our weather services

The homepage is the starting point of the weather portal. Here you can find the weather 'today' in South Tyrol. On the map you can see the weather symbols and below them the weather forecast in text format, which our meteorologists produce daily. Pay attention to the reliability information: this indicates the accuracy of the weather forecast.

From the homepage, you can access the South Tyrol weather with the forecast for the coming days via the 'Further developments' button.

Precipitation: radar and forecast

The most frequently accessed weather data in South Tyrol relates to precipitation. This is why you will find this information directly on the homepage:

  • Precipitation radar with the current precipitation. Click on the image to go to the weather map 'Radar, lightning and satellite'.
  • Precipitation forecast every hour. Click on the image to go to the 'Analyses and forecasts' weather map.

Favourites

On the homepage you can also see the municipalities and webcams that you have selected as favourites.

The favourites are saved in your browser. If the browser memory (cache) is deleted, your favourites will also be removed. Read more about this in the 'Favourites' section on this page.

You can find more forecasts for downloading and printing in the weather reports in PDF format.

The mountain weather in South Tyrol is shown in the overview with the forecast for today and tomorrow.

You also receive a 6-day forecast for the 7 mountain groups in the region, with current data on precipitation, wind and temperature.

The geo-referenced weather maps are new. They show the current weather situation, past measurements and upcoming forecasts.

The 'Radar, lightning and satellite' map provides a comprehensive overview of the current weather situation and is updated every five minutes. It shows precipitation, hail probability and hail size based on the radar on the Gantkofel as well as lightning discharges. In addition, a Meteosat satellite image updated every 15 minutes provides information on cloud cover.

In addition, the 'Analyses and forecasts' map visualises the parameters of precipitation, cloud cover, temperature and wind gusts in hourly resolution. Measured data and forecasts can be called up on the same map.

How to use the control bar

The weather maps have appropriate legends (depending on the parameter) as well as a zoom function, location determination and a full-screen view.

The lock symbol makes it possible to lock the map area so that the zoom, displayed area and the same time period remain unchanged. This function applies to both analysis data and forecasts and allows you to easily compare different layers or points in time without changing the display.

You can activate automatic updating during navigation: New images and current data are automatically loaded every 5 minutes so that you always have access to the latest data.

The speed (FPS) shows how fast the animation of the map is played. 2 FPS means that two images are displayed per second. This ensures a slower, clearer display so that changes over time can be easily tracked. You can choose between 1 and 6 FPS.

Weather stations are devices that record meteorological data such as temperature, humidity, air pressure, wind speed and precipitation. They consist of several sensors that continuously measure and store these values.

In South Tyrol, there are around 60 weather stations in the valley, around 40 weather stations on the mountains and around 30 so-called water level stations on the rivers. The latter measure the water level, flow rate and water temperature, among other things.

The data is updated every 15 minutes on the website.

Download the latest weather reports for South Tyrol and the mountain weather conveniently as a PDF here.

All weather reports are available in all languages:

  • South Tyrol weather - overview,
  • Mountain weather - overview,
  • Mountain weather for the seven mountain groups.

There is also a bilingual version (German and Italian) for the South Tyrolean weather.

There is no separate PDF report for the municipal weather. However, you can print each detailed page of a municipality directly using the 'Print' button at the bottom of the page.

Favourites

Mark your preferred weather reports as personal favourites with the red heart. Your favourites are always displayed at the top of the page and are quickly available.

The favourites list is saved locally in your browser (e. g. Chrome, Edge, Firefox).
If you delete the browser cache or the website data, your favourites are also removed and must be selected again.

No more email subscription

With the new weather portal, the email subscription for weather reports has been discontinued.
This significantly reduces the daily data transfer - and your inbox remains clear.

Instead, put together your own personalised selection: Access the weather services you want every day and save them as favourites. You can manage your favourites on this page.

There is no more district weather on the new weather portal.

Alternatively, there is:

On the 'Webcams' page you will find an overview with live images from all over South Tyrol - of valleys, towns and mountains. This gives you a realistic impression of the current weather and landscape situation at all times. The webcam page serves as a visual supplement to the weather data, live radar and forecasts.

You can set your personal favourites for the webcams. These are automatically displayed on the homepage and saved for your next visits. If you delete the browser memory (cache) or the website data, your favourites will also be removed. In this case, you will have to select them again.

Most webcams are owned by the RAS and are labelled accordingly.

The Foehn diagram shows the predicted air pressure difference between Bolzano and Innsbruck in hPa, from which the expected wind conditions in the Alps can be derived. The greater the pressure difference, the stronger the Föhn wind and the further it penetrates into the valleys.

  • Negative values indicate a northerly foehn in South Tyrol.
  • Positive values indicate south foehn on the northern side of the Alps.

The diagram is updated twice a day: at 10:00 and 22:00.

The interactive graphics show the development of the forecast maximum temperatures and daily precipitation amounts for the next ten days in the seven districts of South Tyrol. The temperature and precipitation trends are updated three times a day. Coloured markings and lines indicate the most probable development and the uncertainty ranges.

With the widget of the state weather service, you can easily integrate the weather report into your own homepage.

You can choose between the widget with the 3-day forecast and the widget with the map view of the current day.

New functions

You can also display the map in full screen mode. There is a separate button on the button for this.

Click on the South Tyrol symbol on the map to return to the original map view.

The map is used on several pages. It then contains different parameters, such as air temperature or precipitation. You can activate the data view by clicking the toggle button on the map.

With the geo-referenced weather maps, you can determine the speed of the animation on the map yourself. 2 FPS means, for example, that two images are displayed per second. Further functions can be found in the next section 'Weather map control bar'.

The 'My favourites' page gives you an overview of your selected favourites and you can manage them at any time.

How do the favourites work?

Your favourites are saved in your browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, etc.). This allows you to mark municipalities, weather stations or webcams as favourites. The next time you visit, the browser will recognise these entries and automatically display your favourites again.

Important

If you delete the browser memory (cache) or the website data, your favourites will also be removed. In this case, they must be selected again.

You have the option of printing the page on each detail page. To do this, click on the 'Print' or 'Forecast as PDF' button at the bottom of the page.

All forecasts are available as weather reports for downloading and printing. Visit the page Weather reports in PDF format.

The website automatically adapts to different devices: Desktop, tablet or smartphone. This means that content, navigation and functions remain easy to read and use on any screen.

You can install the new state weather portal like an app on your smartphone or tablet. It works like this:

  1. Open the website: Call up the url wetter.provinz.bz.it in your internet browser on your smartphone, for example in Chrome, Safari or Edge.
  2. Select 'Add to home screen': an icon or menu item such as 'Add to home screen' or 'Install app' usually appears on the smartphone.
  3. Confirm: After confirming, the website is installed as a separate app. The new state weather portal is labelled with its own icon.

You will then find the icon on the home screen of your smartphone, just like with other apps. The app opens quickly, runs in its own window and is easily accessible at all times.
